General Consultation

I consult with individuals and families about personal and life challenges, a difficult transition or a crisis that may benefit from a focused solution-based approach using assessment, education, guidance, advice and resources. One example might be a family member who is struggling with an addiction and/or a mental health issue. Consultations tend to be time-limited and problem or goal-oriented in nature.

Therapy consultations allow a client, parent or family member to explore concerns and to make decisions or changes in their lives that move them in a helpful direction. The consultation process is an opportunity to speak extensively about any problems and concerns in your current situation. A consultation is a proactive and preventative approach to obtaining guidance and support during a crisis, life transition or a particular situation. At the end of the consultation process I offer clients my assessment and a recommendation for treatment.

EMDR Consultation

I provide individual and group consultation to EMDR therapists. As an EMDRIA-approved consultant, the consultation hours that EMDR-trained therapists receive with me post-training count towards their certification in EMDR. In order to be certified, licensed therapists who complete an EMDRIA-approved training must receive twenty hours of consultation from an EMDRIA-approved consultant. The hours can include ten hours of group and ten of individual consultation, or twenty hours of individual consultation.

Individual EMDR Consultation

I meet with consultees in my office in Boulder, Colorado, or speak with them on the phone from many areas of the United States and abroad. In the consultation I answer questions, give advice, and help clarify areas of difficulty and confusion. I ask that consultees prepare cases to present including client history, case conceptualization and session process notes as well as any questions they might have. I have found that this preparation helps consultees clarify their thinking and enables me to understand how best to advise them.

Group EMDR Consultation

I consult with small groups of EMDR therapists in my Boulder, Colorado office and also by telephone. The groups provide therapists with the opportunity to ask questions, get help with challenging cases, clarify protocols and procedures, assist with case conceptualization, resource development and installation, targeting and interweaves. The groups meet for two hours once a month. If you are interested in being part of a group or starting a group in your community you are welcome to give me a call to go over details.

Supervision

Dr. Vera is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 22 years of clinical and supervisory experience. Dr. Vera provides clinical supervision to Colorado-based therapists in training at the Master’s, Doctoral, and Post-Doctoral Level. Common supervision meetings include reviewing cases, problem-solving, treatment planning, ethical issues, assistance with the licensure process, business aspects of private practice and processing personal reactions to the therapeutic work. Supervision is provided within a theoretically integrated framework that values deeper inquiry, exploration and reflection.  My orientation supports bringing an embodied sense of the client and the therapist into the supervision as well as refining of clinical skill. We work together to invite exploration of the relational and intersubjective experiences of the therapist and the client.  My supervision grounds the therapist in difficult cases and establishes a framework for tracking and working with their inner experiences of the client.
